ISO/IEC 17025 is the international standard used to assess the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. Accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025 provides confidence that a laboratory has the systems, processes, and technical capability to deliver reliable and traceable results.

The standard is recognized worldwide and is used by accreditation bodies to evaluate laboratory competence.
Accreditation is an independent evaluation process conducted by an accreditation body. It confirms that a laboratory’s quality management system, technical operations, personnel, equipment, methods, and traceability meet the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025.
Accreditation is not a certification that a specific product, instrument, or result is approved. Instead, it confirms the competence of the laboratory that performs the work.
Accreditation is scope-specific. A laboratory is only accredited for the calibrations, measurement ranges, and capabilities that are listed on its scope of accreditation.
If a calibration is not included in the laboratory’s scope, it is considered a non-accredited service, even if the laboratory is accredited for other capabilities.
